The Ultimate Family Guide to Nantucket

Tips, Eats, Drinks, and Activities

If you're planning a family vacation to Nantucket, you're in for a treat! We just returned from an amazing trip to this charming island with our three boys, my parents, and my husband. While we had a fantastic time, there are a few things I wish I had known beforehand. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you make the most of your Nantucket getaway!

Planning Ahead: Essential Tips

Nantucket is a picturesque island with its own set of quirks. The lots are small and lack yards, meaning your days will revolve around walking through town or biking. However, biking can be challenging with younger kids due to traffic. To ensure a smooth trip, plan one major activity each day. During our visit, we enjoyed a Critter Cruise, surfing lessons, and a sailing trip—each one was a hit with the kids!

A few additional tips:

  • Groceries: Use Instacart to have your groceries delivered upon arrival.
  • Crib Rental: We rented a crib from Nantucket Babies, which was a lifesaver.
  • Reservations: Make lunch and dinner reservations in advance, as popular spots fill up quickly.

Getting Around Nantucket

We found having a rental car extremely convenient, especially with the kids in tow. However, if a car isn’t an option, don’t worry—Nantucket is very walkable, and Ubers and taxis are readily available. Most places are just a short distance away, making it easy to explore the island.
